A Faster Forward - From College to Career

Jessica Lepird

Travel and Hospitality Management
Class of 2012

AIB was the best choice for me. The college offered a reputable business/travel education – and fast. The opportunity to get my bachelor’s degree in only three years was not one to pass up. I could I get done quickly, plus I would have real world experience in the business community.

AIB’s flexible schedule helps me get a quality education while earning a steady income. Because Monday through Thursday classes get done by 1:30 p.m. and we have no Friday classes, I am able to have a part-time job. Also, AIB’s Career Services department stands ready to help you in your job search; through them, I was able to obtain my current position as a student assistant in the marketing department. I am also a Student Orientation Staff Leader (SOS) this year and get the opportunity to interact with the incoming freshman.

“Involved” is a great description of me. Besides attending class and working on campus, I am also a member of Business Management Association (BMA), which has helped to grow me as a leader and instill in me the importance of teamwork. Also, later I will get to go on an international trip. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is another organization I am in. It’s the campus honor society, and I currently serve as president. PTK is all about being the best of the best and achieving high academic standards while remembering to give back to others. Through PTK, I have become involved with various non-profits and volunteer time to help those in need.

I had never been to Des Moines before attending AIB, so I didn’t know what to expect.  However, once I settled in, I found out there are a ton of things to do here. I love going downtown, whether if it be for the great food, a walk at Gray’s Lake, the farmers market, one of the many festivals or a concert. There is something going on every weekend. Also, I love being so close to the malls … the opportunity to catch a movie or do some shopping is only minutes away. AIB’s location is ideal, and you’ll love living in this thriving social and cultural community.
