Measuring Student Success

In the Fall of 2001, AIB College of Business began requiring each student to develop a portfolio. The primary purpose of a student portfolio is assessment of student academic achievement. Through this tool, faculty members are able to determine whether students are learning and achieving the competencies set for each of their classes. Students are able to document and organize the knowledge, skills, and abilities they have developed at AIB. The documents that are compiled into the portfolio are known as artifacts.

It is the goal of the College that students will have earned a C or better on at least 80% of all of their artifacts in their portfolios. Below is a chart that summarizes students’ success rates in their portfolios.

As indicated by the above chart, the majority of our students are earning a “C” or better on a minimum of 80% of their portfolio artifacts. For example, 91.5% of the College’s Summer 2007 graduates earned a “C” or better on 80% of all artifacts required for their major.
