In continued efforts to serve the community and beyond, AIB College of Business in partnership with the Iowa and National Court Reporters Associations, the National Court Reporters Foundation, and the Library of Congress was able to host the Veterans History Project at the AIB campus on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009. In this spirit of service, it was the goal to collect and archive the personal recollections of U.S. wartime veterans so that their stories could be told to future generations.

Veterans have given the ultimate sacrifice with their service and dedication to our country, and this was a way of giving back. Many stories go untold by our veterans, and yesterday 23 were able to become a part of our country’s history. The event would not have been the success it was for the 23 honored veterans and their guests without the help of volunteers including the many court reporters, videographers, community members, and AIB students and staff that made the commitment and donated their time.

The opening ceremony began at 2 pm with Congressman Leonard Boswell giving opening remarks and a group photo of all veterans participating in the event was taken. The personal interviews were then conducted and a closing ceremony was held at 4:30 pm. During the closing, each veteran was recognized with a certificate of participation by Bob Holliday, President - Iowa National Guard Memorial Association and Board Chair - Iowa Gold Star Military Museum, along with the assistance of Sergeant Major Doyle Norris.

A great day was had by all as smiles and chatter filled the rooms. We look forward to continuing the Veterans History Project annually!
