End of the term
Sharon Koelling, AIB Instructor By Sharon Koelling on 2/19/2008 11:43 AM

On Saturday I was leaving a restaurant in a small Iowa town with a friend. As I was merely visiting for the day, I was more than just a little surprised to hear my name as I made way to the door.  "Ms. Koelling! I am in your class next term."

I turned and saw a student from a couple of terms ago enjoying lunch with her family. I assured her that the class was fun, and told her to have a great break.

I am always humbled by the great network of students at AIB. The school connections are strong and you just never know when they will surface.

It keeps me on my toes. :)

Burrrrr!
Jennifer Clubb, AIB Student By Jennifer Clubb on 2/11/2008 5:55 PM

How can you live in Iowa and not love the winter months?  I know that I complain about the snow and ice and cold more than I should, but in truth, I do love the four distinct seasons.

I was talking with my roommate today as we were walking to class about how lucky we've got it here at AIB.  Granted, we were both in our Artic gear and still freezing our noses off, but she said something that really made a lot of sense.

Basically, she said that she's happy she doesn't go to a big university, because she wouldn't be able to walk the far distances in this kind of weather.  I couldn't agree more with her for once.  I have friends that go to Iowa State, UNI, Iowa, and even Kirkwood that complain all the ...

International Festival
Jennifer Clubb, AIB Student By Jennifer Clubb on 1/31/2008 12:26 PM

On Tuesday, January 29th, here at AIB we held our annual International Festival.  This festival is done by the International Business classes.  Basically, each student in the class chooses a country the very first week and each week is asked to give an update on information they have gathered.

The country I did was Switzerland.  I had a great interest in Switzerland before beginning this project ...

Still Learning
Sharon Koelling, AIB Instructor By Sharon Koelling on 1/24/2008 10:10 AM
I always learn so much from my students, especially when it comes to any discussions associated with a country existence. I confess – I was raised in suburbia, and as an adult I stayed with what I knew. I don’t even have a relative with a hobby farm.

This lack of knowledge was obvious while I critiqued the AIB NAMA student group practice for an upcoming competition. The students presented on a product designed for farmers. The presentation was great – I just did not understand what the students were marketing. Luckily, the students were more than happy to tutor their Instructor.

I took notes.
